Medical aid manufacturer uses biomass plant
The biomass plant for the Bamberg-based medical aid manufacturer was completed in record time, just six months after the groundbreaking ceremony.
In future, heating, hot water and the company’s in-house dyeing facility at the Bamberg site will be supplied with heat generated by the biomass plant. Dr Fabian Bohnen, Technical Director at Ofa Bamberg and initiator of the project, lit the fire that marked the start of the plant’s trial operation. Following TÜV certification, the facility is expected to switch to full operation within the next few weeks.
The biomass plant was built by Schmidmeier NaturEnergie from Zeitlarn in the Upper Palatinate region, acting as the general contractor for the project and bringing extensive expertise in the field of pellet heating systems. From the groundbreaking ceremony in December of last year, through installation in April, to the start of operations in early July, only just over six months passed. In his brief address, Ferdinand Schmidmeier attributed this exceptionally short construction period to the smooth and professional cooperation between Ofa Bamberg’s maintenance team, led by workshop manager Reinhold Lauer, and the team from Schmidmeier NaturEnergie.
Managing Director Rainer Kliewe also thanked everyone involved for their professional cooperation and emphasised the strategic importance of the new biomass facility: “The biomass plant is the largest single investment our company has ever made. With this project, we are setting an important example, not only economically but also in terms of corporate responsibility.”
Thanks to the new facility, Ofa Bamberg expects to reduce its CO₂ emissions by approximately 500 tonnes per year.*
