Our path to a green future

What do compression stockings, supports and orthoses have to do with sustainability? A lot! For several years now, not only our medical expertise, but also sustainable thinking has been deeply rooted in our corporate values. We are aware of our responsibility for the environment and society and want to make a difference together. We see sustainability as a challenge on many different levels. We tackle these together.
We promote responsible, sustainable action in the areas of ecology, economy and social affairs. For us, for our environment and, above all, for our employees.
It is clear to us that sustainability does not happen overnight, from top to bottom. It starts on a small scale and with each and every one of us. We want to learn together what we can do for a planet worth living on. There is a lot to do and there is a long way to go towards a better and greener world. But we have already taken the first steps - and we will take many more.

Our contribution to the environment

The goal of ecological sustainability is to preserve nature and the environment - including all resources - for future generations. As a company, we therefore strive to use water, energy and other finite raw materials sparingly. In concrete terms, this means more environmentally friendly production processes and packaging materials, less plastic waste, fair CO2 offsetting and a higher recycling rate.
Our goal in the area of environmental sustainability is to achieve a recycling rate of over 70% for our production waste and packaging.

Less CO2

By using sustainable materials for many of our products, we save natural resources and reduce CO2 emissions.

Based on the 2019 figure, we will reduce our CO2 emissions by 30 to 50 % by 2030.

To offset the CO2 emissions of our company fleet, we purchase emission reduction certificates. We support climate protection projects with each certificate.

We set an example! Our Managing Director Rainer Kliewe plants a tree on the company premises.

With our new biomass plant, we generate steam and produce almost CO2-neutrally at our Bamberg site.

We are also driven by the topic of electromobility. Ofa Bamberg GmbH's vehicle fleet is increasingly being converted to e-cars and hybrid models in order to save more CO2.

Second life

We also think sustainably in hosiery production. Empty spools of yarn are sent back to the supplier and can therefore be reused.

Typical coffee machines with disposable cups have long been a thing of the past. Plastic cups for hot drinks have been replaced by chic porcelain cups.

We give waste paper a second life because many of our advertising materials, such as brochures, flyers and instructions for use, are printed on certified recycled paper. In addition, the packaging for our orthopaedic products has a very high recycled content.

We also design everyday office supplies sustainably. Our Ofa Bamberg ballpoint pens, for example, are made from old PET bottles.

The most environmentally friendly paper by far is recycled paper, as it conserves natural resources. That is why we are increasingly using recycled paper both internally and externally.

Goodbye bubble wrap: we also want to avoid plastic as far as possible when packaging our goods and use filling material made from recycled cardboard. Even the adhesive tapes are no longer made of plastic. We use paper adhesive tapes.

Digitalization

For us, “think before you print” is a top priority. Most documents and invoices are not printed out and sent by post but transmitted digitally.

We also pay attention to sustainable accounting. When processing invoices, we use digital software to save paper and protect the environment.

Energy

At our Bamberg and Glauchau sites, we use 100% green electricity, which is produced in a climate-neutral way. The green electricity is certified with the “RenewablePLUS” quality label from TÜV Rheinland.

Our contribution to the economy

Economic sustainability means that economic success must not come at the expense of the environment and society. That is why we promote employee knowledge, fair trade and environmental protection projects in the long term. We select business partners according to sustainability criteria, attach great importance to quality management and promote a good work-life balance for our employees.

Our goal in the area of economic sustainability is to remain economically successful while increasingly focusing on our employees and environmental protection.

Production

“Made in Germany” has always been particularly important to us. Almost 90% of our products are manufactured at our sites in Germany, which enables us to achieve shorter supply chains and transportation routes.

We are part of the sustainability-oriented INDUS Holding AG, which operates according to the conviction that sustainable action generates competitive advantages, increases corporate value and strengthens the corporate culture.

As a company, we are committed to principles of conduct that are derived from our responsibility towards customers, business partners and employees.

Future@Ofa

For us, sustainable corporate management also means promoting employees responsibly. Ofa Bamberg trains young employees and offers a high chance of being taken on and long-term development prospects.

Social sustainability focuses on people, and that is exactly what we do as a company. We focus our actions on the well-being of our employees, because satisfied employees make for satisfied customers. We live solidarity and diversity. As Ofa Bamberg, we want to contribute to a fair working environment worth living in with our vision that every employee deserves the same opportunities.
Our goal in the area of social sustainability is to make our contribution to a sustainable society with equal opportunities, tolerance and family friendliness.

Satisfied employees

All employees receive free water and hot drinks. We use reusable bottles and cups for this purpose.

Our internal mouthpiece offers all employees the opportunity to pass on suggestions and requests to the management. 

We offer our employees health-promoting services and thus ensure well-being in the workplace.

Promoting equality

We focus our actions on the well-being of our employees. In doing so, we live solidarity and diversity.

Financial equality for comparable tasks and qualifications applies regardless of gender.

Corporate social responsibility

Every year, we donate to charitable organizations and initiatives selected by our divisions and locations, as well as by our employees. 

Doing good for people: We traditionally take part in the gift tree campaign before Christmas and fulfill the small wishes of people in Bamberg's aid organizations.

Promoting sustainable thinking

We use various campaigns such as distributing flower seeds or a campaign for World Bee Day to raise awareness of sustainable living among our employees.

Making your own cleaning products, saving food, etc. - surveys and tips from the workforce show how much everyone can do to improve sustainability in everyday life.

During Bicycle Week or our participation in CITY CYCLING, we show that it is worth leaving the car behind for smaller everyday trips.
