Ofa Bamberg GmbH takes another step towards a responsible future
The construction of a new biomass plant marks an important milestone in the further development of the energy supply at Ofa Bamberg GmbH’s Bamberg site. Just before Christmas, excavation work began to prepare the foundations for the new biomass facility. The ceremonial groundbreaking was carried out by Managing Director Rainer Kliewe and Technical Director Dr Fabian Bohnen.
With the new biomass plant, Ofa Bamberg GmbH will be able to generate the process heat required for production in-house while also heating its buildings. As a result, the manufacturer of medical compression stockings and supports expects to reduce its CO₂ emissions by around 500 tonnes per year. The calculation is based on the company’s heating oil consumption in 2020.
For Rainer Kliewe, Managing Director of Ofa Bamberg GmbH, the investment represents another step towards a responsible future: “We have made it our mission to act consciously and efficiently in all areas of our business. I am delighted that our new heating system will secure the heat supply for our site and enable us to generate the process heat required for production ourselves in the future.”
After more than two years of planning, installation of the biomass plant is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2024. The facility will be transported by heavy haulage from southern Thuringia, with commissioning planned for mid-2024.
